Following a devastating fire in its kitchen, York-based The Star Inn The City was pleased to recently re-open its popular facilities, and C&C Catering Engineers Ltd were delighted to be involved in the regeneration of the catering environment at this fantastic venue.
Having completed the kitchen design and installation at one of the group’s other outlets during 2018, The Star Inn The Harbour in Whitby, C&C Catering Engineers Ltd were pleased to work with the owners (including Michelin Star Chef Andrew Pern), staff from The Star Group, and their preferred equipment manufacturers Electrolux Professional to create a new layout in the busy catering environment.
Working in conjunction with the client and local building contractors, GEM Construction, plans were finalised in early January 2019 with an initial completion date planned for mid February. Alongside salvaged equipment, new equipment installation included a coldroom and freezer by Williams Refrigeration, a kitchen extraction/ventilation system designed in conjunction with LTS which included UV and ESP systems to virtually eliminate odours and grease, UPVC and stainless steel wall cladding, bespoke stainless steel fabrication, all of the main cooking equipment featuring Thermaline series units from Electrolux, and a Fire Suppression system.
Challenges on the project included the tight timescale, which involved a complete rebuild of the kitchen, and stringent planning restrictions due to the site’s proximity to the historic City Walls of York. Additionally, the unfortunate fire circumstances created more challenges as several items to be restored where unable to be fitted due to damage sustained in the event. With a dedication to customer satisfaction, C&C committed to overcoming the issue and obtained, delivered, and fitted replacement items within 24 hours.
C&C Catering Engineer Ltd’s Managing Director Ian Berrow commented, “The works at The Star Inn The City are now complete, and we’re proud that the client is very happy with the finished product. There were some challenges on the project, especially due to the unfortunate circumstances and damage caused by the fire, but we were pleased to overcome these and create a scheme the client is happy with.”
